When
opening a business, you will have to
shoulder a lot of responsibility, and be
a self starter. You won't be able to
walk away from problems, they must be
corrected. When you work for someone
else, there is staff that takes care of
various aspects of a business, i.e..
billing, legal, marketing. When you
first start you own business, you
probably won't have enough money to hire
so many people. You have to be
comfortable with doing everything,
including things that aren't so
glamorous like sweeping the floor, and
answering phones.
You
can expect to work long hours,
especially in the beginning, since you
probably won't have much staff to assist
you. If your spouse isn't supportive of
the idea, the long hours can put a real
rift into your relationship. Many small
business are run by families. Very
often children are seen working at these
business along side their parents on
weekends.
If
you don't like working with people,
starting a franchise may be difficult
for you. You will need to interact with
employees and customers. The same goes
for people that need lots of direction.
Franchises prefer that people that run
their franchises can follow their
directions closely. A franchise is only
effective if the entire business is
followed by rules down to the smallest
detail. If you are too independent, you
will have conflicts with your franchise
company. If that is the case you should
consider opening an independent
business. |
